It’s hard to say what motivates people to do the things they do. My involvement in the development of this site is no different. It initially started to become reality upon the chance cybermeeting of Frank Nolte which is explained in “How This Web Site Got Started.” There is no single reason why I picked up the ball and ran. I believe it was a combination of many factors both past and present with Frank being the catalyst that moved me from a “that's nice” frame of mind to a “let's get on with it” attitude. With that said, I will spare you all my inner thoughts.
This was my first Web site project in which I had a “real” purpose. That purpose of course was getting this site put together as accurately and factual as possible and to provide a cyber meeting place for the millions of people who hold memories of the North Platte Canteen to share them. In the process I have met both virtual and real persons which I never would have had the opportunity to come to know otherwise. It has made me a more complete person as a result and am eternally grateful for the experiences it has provided.

My special thanks go to Frank Nolte for his inspiration, unintentional motivation of me and his invaluable editing of my poor English (on the other hand this may have been what he had in mind all along). Without Frank, this site likely would never have been.A special thanks also to James J. Reisdorff who wrote the “North Platte Canteen” booklet upon which much of this site is based. He has also loaned me his mountain of reference material without which this web site would not be nearly as complete and would have made this project much more difficult.
Many thanks are extended to Gary Reber editor of the North Platte Telegraph, Lincoln County Historical Museum, Union Pacific Railroad, and the countless others for their support, their resources, and enduring my story telling and questioning about the Canteen.
In particular, my family for sacrificing the “Quality Time” that is their due so I could work on this project. They also helped me do some of the footwork that was required and accompanied me on many “fact finding missions.” They have become as “expert” about the North Platte Canteen as anyone.
